We operate at the intersection of technology and biology, supporting researchers, healthcare and industry partners by transforming ideas into functional experimental tools, prototypes and custom-built systems.\n\nWe are now seeking a Senior Research Engineer who can take responsibility for complex technical projects and contribute to both technical and operational development of the infrastructure.\n\nYou will work with the core operations of U-PRINT, where practical engineering work is combined with responsibility for project delivery and infrastructure operations. The role suits someone comfortable working independently within technical, collaborative and administrative areas.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nTranslate user needs into technical specifications, CAD models and functional prototypes\nDesign and manufacture custom laboratory tools including molds, microfluidic components, imaging accessories and automation systems\nWork hands-on with AM technologies, including SLA\/DLP, SLS, MJF, FDM and associated post-processing and optimization\nSupport projects from concept through prototyping, testing and implementation\nDevelop or integrate electronics, sensors and software-controlled installations\nAdvise users on design and material choices\n\nThe role involves leading multiple parallel projects and having direct contact with researchers and external partners, as well as operations and development of the research infrastructure, including:\n\nManaging facility projects, documentation, user support and service workflows\nPreparing quotes and managing billing for internal and external users\nSupporting procurement, supplier contact and equipment\/service acquisition\nMaintaining SOPs, risk assessments and quality documentation\nImproving workflows, service structures and infrastructure practices\nOversight of laboratory operations, safety procedures, chemical waste management and inventory\nParticipation in lectures, workshops, demonstrations and promotional events\n\nQualifications\n\nWe seek a technically strong and practically oriented engineer with experience in advanced prototyping for life science applications.\n\nYou have:\n\nPhD in additive manufacturing, engineering, materials science or related field\nPractical experience with multiple AM technologies, such as SLA\/DLP, SLS, MJF or FDM\nStrong 3D modeling, 3D printing software, CAD and Design-for-AM skills\nRelevant scientific publications, patents or industrial collaborations\nDocumented experience translating user needs into prototypes or technical solutions\nProgramming\/scripting skills, e.g. Python, for design, automation and\/or data handling\nExperience with electronics, sensors and\/or software control of laboratory instrumentation\nExperience working in interdisciplinary environments\nGood ability to express yourself in spoken and written English\n\nMeritorious\n\nThe following are considered particularly advantageous:\n\nExperience with research infrastructure, core facilities or multi-technology AM environments\nExperience with facility management, project tracking, billing or service documentation systems\nExperience with quotes, cost estimation, billing or procurement workflows\nAdvanced CAD skills and experience with parametric\/generative design, simulation, mesh optimization or hard-surface modeling\nExperience with life science or biomedical applications, e.g. drug delivery systems\nExperience with material characterization techniques\nExperience with automation, IoT or data-driven workflows\n\nAbout the Position\n\nThe employment is permanent.
