The Automation Section develops and maintains also the control system operator interfaces (OPIs), as well as the archive and alarm configurations of the PLC-based control systems.\nAs an Automation and Control System Engineer at ESS your responsibilities will be the following:\nLead the development, integration, verification, and validation of control systems, ensuring compliance with relevant procedures and standards.\nDefine schedule and costs while exploring innovative approaches and conceptualizing solutions.\nDocument design\/development.\nReview other engineering designs.\nStay current with emerging state-of-the-art technologies.\nCollaborate with system owners to facilitate successful deployment of integrated control systems.\nProvide technical support to team members on PLC technologies and EPICS integration.\nDevelop and maintain key control projects, including the new PLC\/EPICS Integrator tool.\n\nThis position is a full-time, permanent role with a 6-month probationary period. We would like this position to start as soon as practically possible.\nAbout you:\nWe are seeking a proactive, self-motivated, responsible, structured Automation or Control Systems Engineer who is eager to grow in a fast-paced, impact-driven environment. You should enjoy working both independently and together with others within a team and are comfortable communicating with both in-house technical teams and external stakeholders.\nThe following qualifications and experience are mandatory for this position:\nA Master's degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a very closely related field.\nProven experience in control system design and implementation within a research facility or industrial setting.\nStrong expertise in: PLC programming, according to standard IEC 61131-3.\nMotion control systems.\nKnowledge of Python, C\/C++ and Linux OS.\nKnowledge of Gitlab.\nKnowledge of the EPICS Framework.\nExperience with Beckhoff PLC.\nProven ability in independent problem-solving and solution development.\nExcellent technical writing, reporting, and documentation skills.\nAn excellent track record of working with configuration management tools, source code management tools and version control systems.\nFluency in both oral and written English.\n\nExperience in any of the following areas would be an advantage:\nParticle accelerator systems technology.\nPrior experience of working with EPICS software tools, including SNL and Sequencer module.\nKnowledge of pytest and PySide6 python modules.\nSiemens PLC and Siemens tools such as Openness and Test Suite Advanced.\nPrior experience of working in a complex, international project or plant.\nExperience of using collaborative electronic project management tools, such as Jira.\nGood communication skills in both written and spoken Swedish.\n\nTo apply:\nA career at ESS gives you the opportunity to contribute to the future discoveries within neutron science at a stunning, brand-new workplace filled with innovative minds and brilliant people from across the globe.
