We have approximately 100 staff members, including doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers, distributed across 25 research groups.\nMore information about us can be found at: Department of Ecology, Environment and Botany.\nProject Description\nThe Department of Ecology, Environment and Botany is seeking a doctoral student for a research project aimed at elucidating evolutionary drivers and genomic consequences of pollen evolution in relation to shifts in pollination modes. The thesis work will be conducted within the framework of this project, with a focus on analyzing selection on pollen in connection with shifts from insect to wind pollination. The work will include large-scale genomic analyses in an evolutionary framework, as well as population genomic and transcriptomic analyses in appropriate plant systems. The project is led by Prof. Tanja Slotte and is conducted in close collaboration with Prof. John Fitzpatrick, Prof. Catarina Rydin, and Dr. Allison Hsiang at Stockholm University. The project is funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.\nEligibility Requirements\nTo be admitted to doctoral education, applicants must have general and specific eligibility. Eligibility must be fulfilled by the final application deadline.\nYou have general eligibility if you have completed an advanced degree, or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits (hp), of which at least 60 hp at advanced level, or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge within or outside the country.\nSpecific eligibility is described in the general study plan for doctoral education in the subject of Ecology and Evolution. For specific eligibility to be admitted to doctoral education in Ecology and Evolution, applicants must have completed course work at advanced level totaling at least 60 hp, of which 15 hp must be courses in ecology or evolution, and at least 30 hp must be independent work in one of the areas of ecology or evolution or equivalent.\nSelection\nSelection among applicants is made with consideration of the ability to benefit from doctoral education. Criteria used to assess this ability are:\ndocumented subject knowledge and skills relevant to the research area such as evolutionary biology, evolutionary genetics\/genomics, population genetics, phylogenomics, and related subjects\nanalytical and creative thinking\ndocumented experience with bioinformatics or other computational-based analyses\nown initiative\nindependence\ncollaboration skills\nexcellent ability to express yourself in speech and writing in English.\n\nDocumented experience with molecular genetics laboratory work and\/or plant research is desirable but not required. Great weight will be given to personal suitability.\nAdmission procedures for doctoral education at Stockholm University.\nAbout the Position\nWe offer a fixed-term appointment as a doctoral student according to Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100). The appointment period cannot exceed what corresponds to doctoral education full-time for four years.
