The overarching goal is to establish the ultimate limits on what resources are required and what performance can be achieved in such tasks, as well as to develop explicit protocols that achieve or approach these limits. A central challenge is to express these limits in mathematically tractable and computationally accessible forms. Ideas and methods from quantum Shannon theory will be particularly useful, together with tools from entanglement theory and the broader mathematical foundations of quantum information. The project will investigate fundamental information-theoretic quantities, including entropy, mutual information, channel capacities, and various measures of entanglement, as well as how these behave when quantum systems or information processing resources are combined. Questions about additivity and non-additivity form an important part of this broader research program.\nAdvisor: Professor Mikael Skoglund\nAdmission Requirements\nTo be admitted to graduate studies (Ch. 7 39 \u00a7 Higher Education Ordinance), applicants must have basic eligibility:\nCompleted a degree at the advanced level, or\nCompleted course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level, or\nAcquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way within or outside the country.\n\nApplicants must demonstrate excellent mathematical knowledge relevant to information theory, particularly in linear algebra and probability theory.\nIn addition to the above, there is a mandatory requirement in English equivalent to English B\/6.\nSelection\nTo succeed in your doctoral studies at KTH, you need to be goal-oriented and persistent in your work.
