In terms of cost and power output, the electrode is a critical component that must meet high requirements for electrical conductivity, large active surface area, electrocatalytic activity, and chemical and mechanical stability. To enable continued electrode development, more research is needed to understand the relationship between electrode surface properties and battery power output. This project aims to create fundamental and technical understanding of electrodes in flow batteries by combining innovative surface treatment of electrodes with two-dimensional transition metal carbides at KTH with the development of carbon fiber nanostructures at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). The experimental results will be used to develop a multiphysical model to calculate electrode properties and predict electrode utilization, current density distribution, and power density limits. The PhD student will spend one year at the China-UK Low Carbon College, SJTU. We are seeking a person with an interest in electrochemistry and batteries, combined with fundamental competence in materials characterization.\nSupervision: Asst. Prof. Amirreza Khataee and Assoc. Prof. Ya Ji are proposed to supervise the PhD student. The decision will be made upon admission.\nAdmission Requirements\nTo be admitted to doctoral education (ch. 7 39 \u00a7 Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility:\ncompleted a degree at advanced level, or\ncompleted course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or\nhas acquired in some other way within or outside the country essentially equivalent knowledge.\n\nIn addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English equivalent to English B\/6.\nSelection\nTo succeed in your doctoral studies at KTH, you need to be goal-oriented and persistent in your work.
