It consists of approximately 80 teachers, researchers, doctoral students, and technical and administrative staff. The department conducts broad activities in basic and applied research in marine geology and geophysics, geochemistry, and classical geology.\n\nMore information about us can be found at: Department of Geological Sciences.\n\nProject Description\n\nDeteriorating environmental conditions in the ocean, such as acidification and oxygen depletion, can have extensive consequences for climate, biodiversity, and ecosystem function. In coastal and enclosed marine areas\u2014including the Baltic Sea\u2014human activity can drive environmental deterioration, which can lead to changes that are difficult or impossible to reverse. So-called geoengineering has therefore been proposed as a possible strategy to counteract deteriorating conditions in the oceans. Before large-scale interventions are considered, however, their effectiveness, risks, and side effects must be evaluated through studies of natural systems and through controlled experiments.\n\nThis project examines the potential of marine sediments to function as georeactors to strengthen ocean resilience, from both an eutrophication and climate perspective.\n\nBy recreating relevant natural conditions in laboratory experiments, the project will evaluate how both natural processes and targeted human interventions affect the biogeochemical interaction between surface sediments and the overlying seawater. The overall objective is to determine whether sediment-based processes can help counteract environmental deterioration while preserving the integrity and function of the system consisting of sediment and seawater.\n\nQualification Requirements\n\nTo be admitted to doctoral studies, the applicant must have general and specific eligibility. Eligibility must be fulfilled no later than the final application deadline.\n\nYou have general eligibility if you have completed an advanced-level degree, or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits (hp), of which at least 60 hp at an advanced level, or in another way within or outside the country acquired substantially equivalent knowledge.\n\nSpecific eligibility is described in the general curriculum for doctoral studies in the subject of geochemistry:\n\nAt least 90 hp in geoscience\nAt least 30 hp in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and\/or biology depending on the chosen subject area within geochemistry or biogeochemistry\nFurthermore, at least 60 hp at an advanced level, including 30 hp independent work in geoscience.\n\nSelection\n\nSelection among eligible applicants takes place with consideration to the ability to benefit from doctoral studies. The following criteria are used to assess this ability:\n\nExperience conducting long-term laboratory incubation experiments.\nExperience with analytical laboratory methods and instrumentation, including IC (ion chromatography), ICP-OES, titration, spectrophotometry, etc.\nExperience with geochemical sampling during research expeditions.\nProgramming skills, particularly in processing and analyzing time-series data.\nWritten and oral communication skills in English.\nAnalytical ability and collaboration skills.\nCreativity, initiative, and independence.\nThe applicant's potential to succeed, documented through a brief research proposal (max 2 pages) attached to the application.\n\nThe assessment is based on previous experience and grades, the quality of the thesis work, references, relevant laboratory or field experience, interviews, and the applicant's written motivation for applying for the position. The person who is hired is expected to start as soon as possible.\n\nAdmission Order for Doctoral Studies at Stockholm University.\n\nAbout the Position\n\nWe offer a fixed-term position as a doctoral candidate according to Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100). The period of employment may not exceed what corresponds to doctoral-level full-time studies for four years. As a doctoral candidate, you shall primarily devote yourself to your own doctoral studies, but the employment may include work with teaching, research, and administration to a limited extent (maximum 20%).\n\nA new position as a doctoral candidate is valid for a maximum of one year; the employment is then renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.\n\nStockholm University values being a workplace free from discrimination and provides equal rights and opportunities for all.\n\nContact\n\nFurther information is provided by University Lecturer in Geochemistry, Dr. Wei-Li Hong, wei-li.hong@geo.su.se\n\nApplication\n\nYou apply for the doctoral position via Stockholm University's recruitment system. Attach a cover letter and CV as well as the attachments requested in the application form. As an applicant, you are responsible for ensuring that your application is complete in accordance with the announcement and that it reaches the university no later than the final application deadline.\n\nInstructions for applicants can be found on the webpage: applying for a position.\n\nStockholm University contributes to the development of a sustainable democratic society through knowledge, enlightenment, and the pursuit of truth.","language":"sv","is_translated":true,"title_original":"Doktorand:Marina sediment - georeaktorer f\u00f6r modifiering av bottenhavskemi","description_original":"Institutionen f\u00f6r geologiska vetenskaper \u00e4r en del av naturvetenskapliga fakulteten vid Stockholms universitet.
