One of the guiding principles of the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer collaboration between medical research and healthcare. Research is conducted within six research programs: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration, and vascular biology. Parts of the activities are also integrated with the departments of oncology, clinical genetics, clinical immunology, clinical pathology and hospital physics at Akademiska Hospital. The department has a turnover of approximately 550 million kronor, of which about two-thirds are external research grants. The position focuses on leading a research team that uses zebrafish as a model organism. The Research Engineer will also perform practical experimental work on our ongoing projects and take responsibility for establishing and conducting standard experiments in the group. Key responsibilities include:\n- Organize and maintain the laboratory, including inventory management, ordering reagents and consumables using inventory and order management software, and ensure a clean and functional work space.\n- Perform support experiments such as genotyping, PCR, molecular cloning and maintenance of zebrafish lines.\n- Assist with zebrafish breeding and care in accordance with institutional and ethical guidelines.\n- Contribute to the group's research projects on cardiovascular mechanosensation, including experimental design and data analysis, with co-authorship of the resulting publications.\n- Generate and characterize new zebrafish lines, including CRISPR-Cas9 knock-ins and transgenics through microinjection.\n- Acquire and quantify confocal imaging data from zebrafish embryos.\n- Collaborate closely with the group leader to ensure laboratory activities run smoothly.\n- Develop and conduct an independent side project in agreement with the group leader.\n\nQualification Requirements\n- Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, biomedicine or equivalent laboratory experience.\n- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage laboratory operations efficiently.\n- Ability to work independently while maintaining a collaborative and supportive attitude.\n- Strong sense of responsibility and accuracy.\n- Documented practical experience with experimental research, such as from a master's thesis project or a previous research position.\n- Ability to plan and troubleshoot experiments independently, as well as to interpret and present resulting data.\n- Good communication skills and fluent English, both spoken and written.\n\nDesirable\/Meriting Qualifications\n- Experience with zebrafish, including line maintenance, microinjection and CRISPR genome techniques.\n- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning and genotyping.\n- Previous training in Swedish legislation and ethics, animal welfare and the 3Rs, as well as laboratory animal science for zebrafish.\n- Experience with laboratory ordering and inventory systems.\n- Experience with fluorescence microscopy of live embryos and quantitative image analysis in Fiji\/ImageJ.\n- Experience mentoring or training students in the workplace.\n- Positive and dynamic personality, with a willingness to contribute to a collaboration-oriented team environment.\n\nAbout the Position\nThe position is permanent, probation may apply.
