Students who give hope for the future. Employees who every day contribute to Link\u00f6ping University tackling the challenges of our time. Our values are based on credibility, trust, and security. By being brave, thinking freely, and doing new things, we create together, through great and small actions, a better future. Welcome to apply for a job with us!\nAbout the Job\nOrganic solar cells (OSCs) are based on semiconducting carbon-based materials that absorb visible light and convert solar energy into electrical energy. Compared to commercial silicon solar cells, organic solar cells have unique advantages. For example, they can be manufactured through inexpensive printing technology (organic semiconductors can be dissolved in organic solvents and thus used as ink), they can be made semi-transparent in various colors, and can be used architecturally by being integrated into buildings, which provides both aesthetic and environmental benefits. OSCs also have a shorter energy payback period compared to other solar cell technologies (the energy needed for the production of OSC devices is repaid after six months of use under typical sunlight conditions in northern Europe).\nOrganic solar cells have traditionally been limited by their relatively low efficiency (approximately 10%). However, the situation has changed significantly in recent years with a recently reported efficiency of over 20%. The main reason for this significant improvement is the application of fullerene-free acceptor materials. Despite the rapid progress in efficiency, little is known about the physics and photophysics of this new type of fullerene-free solar cells. The candidate will focus on understanding generation and recombination, particularly photoluminescence quantum yield, in fullerene-free OSCs, with the goal of paving the way for rational design of donor and acceptor materials for further improved efficiency.\nAbout You\nWe are seeking motivated candidates with a doctorate in physics, chemistry, materials science, or engineering. Experience with organic solar cells is a requirement. The applicant should have good collaboration skills and enjoy working as part of a team. It is expected that the candidate openly shares research results with other group members and actively contributes to scientific discussions regarding both their own work and other research within the group.\nThe position involves conducting the research described in the project description and as defined in consultation with the project leader. It includes minor project management responsibilities, including coordination of various parts of the work to ensure that set deadlines are met.\nFurthermore, candidates are expected to serve as a resource for other group members by contributing knowledge and advice regarding scientific methods, experimental protocols, and techniques. Upon request from the project leader, responsibility for specific research equipment and laboratory infrastructure may be included, including ongoing maintenance, to ensure an efficient and well-functioning laboratory environment.\nPlease include a statement of purpose that indicates:\nWhy you are interested in this position\nWhy you believe you are qualified for this position.\n\nYour Workplace\nYou will work at the Division of Electronic and Photonic Materials (EFM) at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM).\nRead more about our activities here https:\/\/liu.se\/en\/organisation\/liu\/ifm\/efm\nAbout the Employment\nFixed-term employment (11 months and 20 days), full-time.\nStart date by agreement.\nSalary and Benefits\nLink\u00f6ping University applies individual and differentiated salary setting in accordance with applicable collective agreements (RALS\/RALS-T) and the university's guidelines for salary determination.\nWe offer the opportunity for remote work part of your working time when the needs of the operation and work tasks allow for it.\nRead more about benefits for employees https:\/\/liu.se\/jobba-pa-liu\/formaner.\nTrade Union Representatives\nFor information about trade union representatives, see https:\/\/liu.se\/jobba-pa-liu\/hjalp-for-sokande.\nApplication\nWelcome to submit your application with CV and cover letter by September 9, 2026. You apply for this position by clicking the \"Apply\" button below. Applications received after the final application deadline will not be considered.\nWe welcome applicants with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives; it enriches and develops our activities.
