Work tasks in prisons\/remand facilities vary: care, supervision, search, and security work are combined with release planning and counseling\/motivational work. Work in prisons and remand facilities is often routine-based and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be held on remand for extended periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and remand facility staff, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer.\nWorking as a correctional officer means you can make a difference in people's lives and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Prison and Probation Service's core values of a humane approach to people, respect for the individual, and belief in people's capacity for development.\nYou will begin your employment at your assigned workplace where you will receive a three-week introduction. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Prison and Probation Service's mandatory basic training, which covers 8 weeks. You will receive salary throughout the training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your suitability for permanent employment.\nQualifications\nYour personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication.
