Welcome to apply for a position as a doctoral candidate at the Department of Information Technology, Uppsala University.\n\nThe doctoral candidate will be placed in the Secure Learning and Control Laboratory, an interdisciplinary research group that conducts basic and applied research at the intersection of cybersecurity, control theory, and machine learning.\n\nJob Responsibilities\n\nThe doctoral candidate will primarily focus on their own research education. Other service at the department, involving teaching and administrative work, may be included within the scope of employment (max 20%). In addition to this, job responsibilities include the following:\n\n- Interdisciplinary research on security for cyber-physical systems, with a focus on secure control under uncertainty and in the presence of realistic adversaries.\n- Publication of scientific results in leading scientific journals and at prominent international conferences.\n- Contribution to network-wide activities and execution of (transnational) academic and\/or industrial research visits within Europe.\n\nQualification Requirements\n\nBasic eligibility for doctoral-level education is held by those who:\n\n- Have completed a degree at the advanced level in electrical engineering, technical physics, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field, or\n- Completed at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level including an independent project of at least 15 higher education credits, or\n- Have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way within or outside the country.\n\nFor specific eligibility requirements, see the study plan for the subject.\n\nFurthermore, the following is required:\n\n- Very good academic results from previous higher education.\n- Good knowledge of control engineering and systems theory.\n- Good programming experience (e.g., in C, C++, Python, Julia, or Matlab).\n- High quality of advanced-level thesis work (or equivalent) or other independent written work.\n- Very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in English.\n- Personal qualities such as creativity, meticulousness, and\/or a structured approach to problem-solving.\n\nTo be eligible as a doctoral candidate within MSCA (Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie Actions), you must not have completed a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment and must not be enrolled in a doctoral program. MSCA's mobility rule means that applicants must not have been resident or conducted their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country where the host organization is located (Sweden) for more than 12 months during the three years immediately preceding the recruitment.\n\nDesirable\/Meriting Qualifications\n\n- Documented analytical ability of high quality.\n- Personal qualities such as initiative, collaboration skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both international and national project partners, as well as the ability to work both independently and in a team.\n- Meriting qualifications include knowledge in one or more of the following areas: machine learning, cybersecurity, or computer systems.\n\nRegulations for doctoral candidates are found in the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5, sections 1-7, and in the university's rules and guidelines.\n\nApplication\n\nThe application must contain the following documents. Location: Uppsala\n\nDoctoral candidates employed through the Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie program receive compensation in accordance with the program's rules for doctoral candidates during the grant period (36 months). This means that the gross salary (i.e., after deduction of employer contributions but including income tax) is approximately 37,000 SEK per month, depending on exchange rate (excluding any family allowance). The employed person's national and local taxes will be deducted from this gross salary before the net salary is paid to the doctoral candidate.
