Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked as one of the world's leading academic institutions. With approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees across Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö, we are united in our mission to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's living conditions.
Description of the Workplace
This position is affiliated with the Division of Solid State Physics at the Department of Physics, a division with approximately 100 employees engaged in extensive research focused on various aspects of nano- and semiconductor physics, ranging from materials science to bio- and quantum physics with various applications. The division is a central part of NanoLund, Lund University's major interdisciplinary research center for nanoscience and nanotechnology. The division also hosts Lund Nano Lab, a central and shared facility for the production of materials and components at the nanoscale. The division is home to Prof Vanya Darakchieve's research group, whose research over the past twenty years on the manufacturing and advanced characterization of wide bandgap semiconductors has been at the forefront internationally.
For more information see www.ftf.lth.se, www.nano.lu.se, https://kaw.wallenberg.org/en/research/semiconductor-bandgap-key-future-green-electronics, https://c3nit.se/
Special Subject Description
The project aims to develop a data-driven approach to optimize the growth of semiconductor materials by combining machine learning with a physics-based understanding of the growth process. Doping and processing of ultra-wide bandgap semiconductors present challenges, but can enable electronic components with significantly better performance compared to conventional power electronic devices based on Si and SiC. This position is part of a major initiative funded by KAW to develop a comprehensive platform that for the first time enables deterministic control of atomic configurations in UWBG materials. The project combines leading expertise and unique knowledge in theory, modeling, synthesis, atomic imaging and spectroscopy, as well as nanoelectronics to unlock the potential of AlN and UWBG materials for next-generation energy technology.
The research will be conducted in close collaboration with doctoral students and researchers working on power electronic devices within the competence center for III-nitride technology C3NiT and within a European network in WBG Pilot Line, as well as with experienced researchers in materials growth and materials characterization at the divisions of Solid State Physics and Synchrotron Radiation Physics.
Duties
The postdoctoral researcher's duties primarily involve conducting research. Teaching may also be included in the duties, but not exceeding one-fifth of working time. As part of the employment, there is an opportunity for three weeks of higher education pedagogical training. The purpose of the position is to develop independence as a researcher and create conditions for further professional development.
The research tasks will include developing machine learning methods based on experimental data provided by collaborating experimentalists. A central part of the work is to identify and define, based on the underlying physics, the parameters most relevant for materials growth, and to develop an open-source computational framework to analyze experimental data, identify relationships between growth conditions and material properties, and propose optimized growth parameters.
Read the full announcement in its entirety on the university's website under "About the University - Work with Us": https://lu.varbi.com/what:job/jobID:967223/
Lunds universitet grundades 1666 och rankas återkommande som ett av världens främsta lärosäten.
